Above The Fear
ABOVE THE FEAR is more than just a sports documentary; it is a moving testament to the courage, unity, and indomitable spirit of a community fighting for their right to love and live freely. Through their journey, Clare, Didi, and the UKAT “Ugandan Kuchu Aquatic Team” swim team demonstrate that even in the most challenging waters, one can create ripples of change that resonate far beyond the pool.
In the heart of Uganda, where societal norms and governmental oppression create a harsh environment for the LGBTQIA+ community, two brave activists, Clare Byarugaba and Didi Bakuraira, embark on an extraordinary journey. ABOVE THE FEAR is an inspiring documentary that follows their daring quest to form Uganda's first LGBTQIA+ swim team, the Ugandan Kuchu Aquatic Team (UKAT), and compete on the global stage. I met the Co-founders Clare and Didi back in 2019 via my partner during World Pride in New York and their story transcends beyond what is expected from us as humans, it highlights the best of us in the darkest of days.
