Friday, May 10 at 4 PM

We invite friends, filmmakers, non-filmmakers, students, Harlemites, and all New Yorkers to join us for a special documentary workshop with award-winning cinematographer, Iris Ng, whose work turns a critical lens on social injustice, marginalized perspectives, and POV filmmaking.

Iris has lensed dozens of films, including the Academy-shortlisted point-of-view documentaries STORIES WE TELL (2012) and SHIRKERS (2018) as well as social issue films, TWICE COLONIZED (2023), SUBJECTS OF DESIRE (2021), PUSH (2019), A BETTER MAN (2017), MIGRANT DREAMS (2016), CATEGORY: WOMAN (2022), and the award-winning Netflix Series MAKING A MURDERER (2015, 2018).

Equally versed in shooting off-the-cuff verité or stylized recreations, Iris’ experience in the documentary space as well as films for artists, and scripted shows has allowed her the opportunity to observe a diverse range of filmmaking styles and collaborations with directors. In this masterclass she will explore the ethics of cinematography, with a particular focus on artificial staging/recreation and using the camera to embody perspective, as well as the relationship between cinematographer and actor/participant.
